If you own some WMDRM-protected .WMV video files such as
Amazon Instant Video purchases, DVD/Blu-ray digital copies, etc. and want to transfer them to PlayForSure-uncertified portable devices like
iPod,
iPad, PSP, and so on for watching, or burn them to the DVD-r/rw discs for keeping permanently, you will need to rip out the WMDRM protection first.
To say truely, not many utilities available on the net can remove DRM from WMV, and many of WMV DRM removal software have already stopped the upgrades. In view of this, today i spent some time testing and comparing multiple similar product, and reading many non-biased consumer reviews, and finally picked out three of the best. They are "Aimersoft DRM Media Converter", "FairUse4WM", and "freeme2".

DRM remover for a reason: it's simple, easy-to-use, besides cutting through the WMDRM copy protection, it also can strip Apple's FairPlay DRM restriction on iTunes video/audio purchases, what's more, it enables to convert to or from over 30 media file formats. Here's how it works:
1.
Download the free-trial version of Aimersoft DRM Media Converter, and install it to your computer.
2. When you come to its home screen, directly drag & drop your protected WMVs to this software to load them.
3. Click "Video Files to" drop-down list and select a proper output video format.
4. Hit "Convert" button. After a few minutes, this software will create the DRM-free version of videos from the source protected WMVs.
FairUse4WM 1.3 (Free) Viodentia created the FairUse4WM on August 19, 2006 to let users get rid of the WMDRM from WMV and WMA files freely. Microsoft certainly can't bear the FairUse4WM to do this, so it released a new version of the IBX to stop this application from working on August 28, 2006, and ungraded the IBX twice within 2 years. But the Viodentia also unwillingly shows weakness, rolled out the FairUse4WM 1.3, 1.3 fix 2, and 1.3 fix-1 in succession to fight against Microsoft. The current version of FairUse4WM can strip DRM protection from WMV, ASF and WMA files (Windows Media Player 9, 10 and 11), but it does not support the WMP 12 on Windows 7 and 8 OS. Freeme2 (Free) freeme2 is a free open source DRM stripping application which can strip DRM restrictions on Windows Media Video and Audio files easily. And the output file's quality fully keep the original quality. But i do not recommend the novices to use it becasue is a command line application. You need to learn how to use console applications to run it.
