Champion jockey Shane Dye is conscious and responding to visitors after recovering from brain surgery in a Hong Kong hospital.
Dye suffered serious head injuries in a race fall at Sha Tin on Sunday and was operated on to relieve pressure caused by bleeding around his brain.
A Hong Kong Jockey Club spokesman said Dye emerged from an induced coma on Monday afternoon.
"The doctors tell us that Shane is responding well and is no longer on the critical list," the spokesman said.
"He has had many visitors and has been writing messages to them on pieces of paper.
"At the moment he is not allowed to talk."
